For this portrait photoshoot at Teufelsberg, I photographed Ada against the raw architecture, graffiti and striking geometric structures of the former listening station. We chose a cinematic and editorial approach, combining the vivid blue of her outfit with the industrial textures and bold colours of the location. I wanted the photographs to feel spontaneous and atmospheric rather than overly posed, using the strong Berlin sunlight, movement and unusual perspectives of Teufelsberg to create a visual story around Ada and the space.
Portrait Photography at Teufelsberg, Berlin
Teufelsberg is one of the most distinctive locations for a portrait photoshoot in Berlin. The abandoned former listening station combines brutalist architecture, large-scale street art, weathered concrete structures and panoramic views over the city. Its unusual atmosphere makes it a perfect location for expressive, urban and editorial portrait photography.
Located in Berlin’s Grunewald, Teufelsberg is a 120-metre-high artificial hill created from the rubble of World War II. During the Cold War, the site was home to an Allied listening station, whose characteristic radar domes have become one of the most recognizable elements of the Berlin skyline. Today, the abandoned complex has been transformed into a large open-air street art gallery and one of Berlin’s most unusual photography locations.
Portrait photography surrounded by Berlin street art
One of the biggest advantages of photographing at Teufelsberg is the variety of backgrounds.
The former listening station is now home to an extensive collection of street art. Colourful murals cover many of the abandoned structures, creating completely different moods from one part of the location to another.
For a portrait session, this means we can create both clean editorial portraits and more expressive, colourful images during the same shoot.
For example, a simple outfit can be photographed against a large mural, while the concrete structures and radar domes can create a much more architectural and minimal background. The contrast between the model, clothing and surroundings becomes an important part of the composition.
The best time for a Teufelsberg photoshoot
The light at Teufelsberg can dramatically change the character of the photographs.
For stronger shadows, saturated colours and a more graphic editorial look, daytime can work beautifully. Later in the day, the lower sun creates warmer light and longer shadows, while the elevated position of Teufelsberg makes it particularly interesting for sunset photography.
The location is open daily from 11:00 until sunset, with the last admission one hour before sunset, although opening times can change for private events.

I’m really thrilled with the photo shoot I did with Anastasiia. The shooting took place in a super relaxed yet professional atmosphere, and the results exceeded my expectations. Anastasiia is a talented photographer who can easily capture the vibe of a location and bring out the best in a model (even an inexperienced one). I greatly appreciate her openness to the place I chose and her helpful advice on posing. I definitely recommend her services and would love to collaborate again!
